David Halberstam was a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist whose career included covering the Civil Rights movement, the Vietnam War and the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. He was the author of more than 20 books, on topics ranging from the Vietnam War to baseball and basketball. He died in an automobile accident in April 2007. He is the 2002 Damon Runyon Award winner.
