A large fireplace crowned with the club crest distinguishes the Press Club’s cozy bar and lounge area, named for its displays of Pulitzer Prizes won by the city’s newspapers. It is the one modern concession made to history when the club was renovated in 2001. Built in 1925 at the height of Prohibition, the original design did not include a bar. The patrons, it is rumored, instead enjoyed an occasional sip of contraband refreshments discreetly disguised in coffee cups.
Today, members and guests openly enjoy the beverages of their choice as they relax and engage in fellowship and conversations ranging from predictable to the most arcane.
