Book Beat Evening with James McGrath Morris
Thursday, March 25 2010, 6:00pm
BOOK BEAT EVENING with JAMES MCGRATH MORRIS, whose new book is titled, "Pulitzer: A Life in Politics, Print and Power." It's billed as the first comprehensive biography of Pulitzer in more than 40 years.

In 19th century industrial America, while Carnegie provided the steel, Rockefeller the oil, Morgan the money and Vanderbilt the railroads, Pulitzer invented the modern mass media. Morris traces the story of this Jewish Hungarian immigrant's rise through American politics and into journalism, where he accumulated great power and wealth - only to fall blind and become a lonely, tormented recluse wandering the globe.
