Denver Woman's Press Club: "Words of Change: From Africa to the Americas"

The Denver Woman's Press Club, 1325 Logan St., presents a seminar titled, "Words of Change: From Africa to the Americas."

Three experts in the field of social justice and positive social change speak on how writers can utilize the power of the pen to address these issues. Speakers include:
Dr. Hadidja Nyiransekuye, "Remembering Rwanda: Voices of Rwanda Then and Now":  An in-depth view of how written documentation brought to light the tragedy of the Rwanda people.  Dr. Nyiransekuye has been a teacher, college professor and social worker, and involved with women's issues.

Dr. Teresa Unseld, "Writers, Art and Research":  integrating art, historical research and writing to create social and spiritual responsibility.  Dr. Unseld is an educator, author, and graphic artist, and the author of "Portfolios," a series combining history, art and activities on diverse cultures.

Dr. Ramon Del Castillo, "Praxis--Transforming Theory into Action, How Writers can Effect Change":  the practical application of writing as a means of social action and change.  Dr. Ramon, co-founder of the Cesar Chavez Peace and Justice Committee, is a human rights activist and educator.

All presenters are co-sponsored by Metropolitan State College Department of Chicana/o Studies and Department of African and African American Studies, Journey Through Our Heritage program.

Hall of Fame

The Denver Press Club will induct five greats of Denver and Colorado journalism into the club’s Hall of Fame at its 14th annual banquet on
Friday, October 2.

Dick Kreck, Marilyn Robinson and Paula Woodward will be honored for outstanding journalism careers, and posthumous awards also will be given to Red Fenwick and Harry Rhoads.

Tickets are $65 and can be purchased by logging on to blacktie-colorado.com, then on Denver under the Event Calendar, and then clicking on October 2. The deadline for ticket purchases is Wednesday, Sept. 30.

The social hour will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the dinner and the awards ceremony at 7 p.m.
